“Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, ‘Have I also here seen Him who sees me?’” – Genesis 16:13 (NKJV).
Have you experienced that “quiet pain”? That quiet pain that many people carry but is seldom spoken about. Yes, let’s be open about it now.
It’s not always financial hardship.
It’s not always the loneliness.
It’s not always the sickness.
Sometimes the deepest pain is simply…
Feeling Invisible.
Invisible in your own family and friend circle.
Invisible at work.
Invisible at church.
Invisible after years of faithful service.
Invisible in your marriage or relationship.
Invisible because someone else received the recognition while you carried the responsibility.
Many today, maybe even you smile while silently wondering, “does anyone even notice me?”
The “good news” of the Gospel is just that. While many people may overlook us…
God Never Does!
Remember, when people fail to recognize your value, God reminds you that your worth has never depended on their recognition! Your value has always been established by His love.
God Sees You Even When Others Do Not.
Let’s examine the story of Hagar. To Abraham she was a complicated situation. And, to Sarah, she was just a servant. She was used, mistreated, rejected and finally cast out to the wilderness, alone.
To society, Hagar was insignificant, and many today feel the same way. Many in our society feel insignificant, unimportant, trivial, minor, paltry, small and the like.
But to God, she was precious! The Lord met her in the wilderness before anyone came looking for her. She named Him, El Roi, “The God Who Sees Me.” Notice, our Lord didn’t wait until Hagar reached a palace, you see, He met her in her pain. Let us be clear, our Father’s presence isn’t limited by your location. He knows where you are because He has never taken His eyes off of you!
God’s Vision is Different From Man’s Vision.
“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” -1 Samuel 16:7.
People often value us according to our position, appearance, income, popularity, education, accomplishments. But, our Lord looks deeper! He sees your faithfulness, when no one applauds. He sees your sacrifices, your prayers, every tear, pain and disappointment. Nothing escapes the Lord’s attention when it concerns you!
Examples of Jesus Making Invisible People Feel Seen.
Zacchaeus, was known to many in his time as a corrupt tax collector, but Jesus saw a man searching for hope. He called him by name, and as people criticized, Jesus personalized.
Blind Bartimaeus, was being silenced by the crowd but Jesus stopped everything. The people that wanted to ignore him became the very ones who had to bring him to Jesus. You see, God has a way of making those who overlook you become witnesses to what He does in your life.
The Woman with the Issue of Blood had become invisible for twelve years. She was ignored, isolated, unclean, and forgotten, but Jesus stopped an entire crowd for this one woman! He called her “Daughter.” She was healed, but she wasn’t merely healed -she received her dignity as well.
The Widow’s Offering was paltry and insignificant to many. They only saw two small coins, but Jesus saw extraordinary devotion. You see, God measures differently than people.
Your Worth To God.
Jesus, when He hung from the cross forever settled the question of your value! He did not die for things, but for people. You are not valuable because of what you possess or own, but because of whose you are!
Isaiah 43:1 —“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.”
The Lord knows your name, knows your story, knows your pain, knows your scars and your future. He has never confused your identity with your circumstances. And because the Lord sees us we must see others.
Everyone is fighting battles we don’t know about. Remember, one smile, a word of encouragement, a prayer, an acknowledgment, may remind someone they are not INVISIBLE!
Romans 12:10 —“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Perhaps you are feeling overlooked, your family doesn’t appreciate your sacrifices. Maybe your employer ignores your faithfulness, and even a ministry unnoticed. Today, hear the Word of God. You may be invisible to people, but you have never been invisible to God.
He saw Hagar in the wilderness.
He saw Zacchaeus in the tree.
He saw Bartimaeus beside the road.
He saw a forgotten widow in the Temple.
And, He sees you now. The God that numbers the stars, knows the hairs on your head, measures the oceans and also collects your tears. He created the universe and still He knows your name. You have never been invisible to God, because Jesus gave His life for you. So, stand and know you are worthy and seen. He will always see you and be with you.
