Why Not You?

Do you ever question your value in a world where when you look around everyone has something special to say?  They say it louder, more persuasively, with many more followers and more likes. They turn heads and make life look “great”.  They drive the best cars, eat at the best restaurants and travel all the time. Have any of you noticed that’s the world today? Also the world today is run by the rich, the successful and even the famous.  It’s easy to ask yourself, where do I fit in?

Yes, the question where do I fit in? Let’s consider that everything that glitters isn’t gold. What you see isn’t all of it or the big picture! You see, when you focus on what others are doing, you sometimes lose sight of the good in your life. Trust me, when I tell you that I’m right here with you. I question my capabilities, decision making and even my purpose as well. And, as a father, I ask, could I have been a better dad?  I’m telling you, that you are not alone to wonder about your value, abilities and even your worth!

I’m Not Alone:

Many biblical figures also questioned their purpose, abilities, and capabilities.  And, like us some even suffered from low esteem, burnout and stress overload!

Moses Speaks to Pharaoh:

Let’s consider the following:

1.) Moses questioned his speaking abilities and oratory skills due a speech impediment.  He lacked confidence. He stated, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”. – Exodus 3: 11.

2.) Jeremiah, who also expressed insecurity about his ability to speak and questioned his value and effectiveness as a prophet. “6 Alas, Sovereign Lord”, I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am young. 7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, “I am too young.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you”, declares the Lord”. -Jeremiah 1: 6-8.

3.) Job during his moments of grief, deep stress and suffering questioned the value of his life, his existence and even why he was born. “Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?” -Job 3:11.

Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul?” -Job 3:20.

Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?”-Job 3:23.

Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me.” -Job 10:18.

Why Not You?

God many times uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things, so why not you? Yes, that’s an honest question. We are the ordinary. But God uses people just like you and me to do amazing things.  It doesn’t matter what we think we lack or if we’re not wealthy, popular, famous or even athletic! The Lord uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things! So, take heart for the Lord makes the ordinary the extraordinary because of His presence in our lives. It’s far from over, because we the ordinary are extraordinary!

Scripture to Consider:

“And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that you, always having the sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8.

“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through that one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5: 17.

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” – Deuteronomy 28: 2-8.

Remember, you have a purpose and are valuable!

The Gospel means good news!

  1. Most of us question our ability at one time or another. But keeping in mind that if God calls you to it. He has already equipped you to do it!! Love it!

    1. Yes, I agree, God will make a way for us. We have to stand on faith though during the trial! If we don’t stand, the end result is changed because of our actions or lack thereof, so we must always stand, and “trust” in the Lord’s plan for us. Thank you for sharing with us.

  2. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on my life. I love the reminder that it’s far from over. I’m currently focusing on how to bridge the gap to what’s next for me. These scriptures, especially 2 Corinthians 9:8, give me peace in knowing that I’ll have exactly what I need for the “good work” ahead. Thanks for the timely Word!

    1. I so appreciate your transparency and openness to share your experiences! It’s great to reflect on life we should do this intermittently as it helps us expand our perspectives. Bridging that gap most times requires patience and consistency. You keep at it and you will walk across that bridge and land exactly where you are supposed to be. Remember, trials will come; take heart and continue to stand firm. You will get to the other side. Thank you so much for sharing.

  3. Your message carries encouragement, especially from the perspective of a father questioning himself yet still standing in faith. That vulnerability is strength. I needed this message.

    1. Your vulnerability to share here says a lot as well, thank you. We are all imperfect, however much on social media can make us question our current situations and where we are going. I certainly question what I could have done better to help my child in this changing world. But, like you and us here, I have to stand on my faith in God believing ultimately good will come. Thank you for sharing with us.

  4. Thank you for sharing such an honest and meaningful reflection. Your transparency is a reminder that many of us wrestle with questions of value in a world driven by comparison, yet our worth is not defined by status or appearances — it is rooted in purpose. I truly appreciate your courage to speak openly, because it encourages others to remember they are not alone and that who they are already matters.

    1. I agree, “our worth is rooted in purpose”, and we have to continue to focus on that. We all can lose sight of that purpose or even forget it may take time to understand it. But, if we shun comparisons it allows us to focus on the Lord’s Word and begin to develop a stronger relationship with him and other like minded people. Let’s continue to grow. Thank you for sharing the message of purpose.

    1. I thank you for sharing how you feel and it seems we all question our value or where we fit. I thought as I aged I’d be easier to see how or where I fit. It wasn’t and I’m still wondering at times, but as you shared, “God uses each of us for His purpose” and in His time. We have to continue to stand in faith, which is so important knowing we are of VALUE to the Lord. Thank you again for sharing.

In today’s world it is very easy to become distressed and question our worth, purpose and value. Everywhere we look on social media were exposed to the most wealthy, beautiful, famous people. The Bible cautiously warns us not to compare ourselves to others. Keeping a simple eye is key, “If, then, your eye is simple, your whole body will be bright”! (Matt. 6:22). God also values everyone of us, “have no fear, for you are worth more than many sparrows!” – Matt 10:31. To stay positive I focus on being grateful for the multiple talents and blessings that I have. We should not compare our lives to others but encourage each other. Stay encouraged and erase doubt. You’ll find God’s plan for your exceeds your dreams ✨️

    1. You are very spot on as we see so many examples of all that people are doing on social media in today’s world. We have to be very diligent to be cautious and ensure we do not compare. So yes, I certainly echo the sentiments you expressed here. One primary thought is to ensure we don’t allow the noise and images around us to take our focus off of the Lord as each contribution we make to someone’s life be it family, friend or stranger means a lot towards kingdom building. Thank you for sharing!
