It’s no surprise that so many people today are feeling overwhelmed in so many ways because of so many reasons. Many feel the impact of divisive politics and negative sentiments. Hopelessness, struggles to pay bills, unemployment, underemployment, medical issues, and more are affecting so many. So, how do we cope in a world where it seems there is little to be joyful about?

When you are feeling overwhelmed consider the following:
1. REJOICE – This is not an easy concept and it requires effort. Practicing rejoicing in a difficult situation is challenging. Still, remember it’s a command in the Word to have a “joyful” heart. So practice praising God, and trusting in His divine timing and His promises!
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice!” – Philippians 4:4.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” -Psalm 118:24
“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O righteous ones; shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” – Psalm 32:11.
2. FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE – We all have a tendency to elevate the current situation. We focus on it when we are feeling overwhelmed. It can be challenging to look beyond the current situation and believe good is coming. To aid us in moving to the positive direction, the scripture advises us to focus on things that are pure, lovely, and of good report.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:7-8.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4.
Remember, the negative and the uncomfortable only lasts for a season. Let us focus on moving beyond that season quickly. We can do this by seeing the positive. Thus, we change our attitude and beliefs. We know that good is coming. Let’s receive it!

I hope this helps, remember the gospel means good news!
