The Cost of Freedom…

We are all aware based on recent events more than ever that freedom even in this country costs. The events occurring in Minnesota remind us of that.

Whether one feels these events are justified or warranted what we see are people getting hurt and even killed. We see US citizens who have now lost their lives at the hands of the government. Regardless of which side one stands on we can still feel empathy for lives lost and lives irrevocably impacted by these events.

There are a few scriptures that come to mind in light of these events:

  1. “Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble”. -1 Peter 3:8 (NIV).
  2. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2 (NIV).

Let us all be sympathetic to one another, care about the burdens of one another. Let us imagine the pain if we lost someone we love so that we can understand the pain these families are feelings.

Let us pray, Lord, may these events soon become history. Help us to choose to embrace peace and compassion for one another. Help us to choose love, kindness and show humanity to each other, in Jesus name. Amen.

Amen. May we not turn away from the suffering of others, but open our hearts to it. Let our empathy move us to action, our compassion to comfort, and our love to heal. May God strengthen the grieving, bring peace where there is pain, and guide us all to be instruments of hope, mercy, and unity in a hurting world.

    1. Well stated and powerful words as empathy requires and allows us the move beyond feeling detached from others emotions and situations, but to be understanding and feeling! Thank you for sharing.

  2. Agreed! We certainly should as you shared, “open our hearts”, which the Word beseeches us to do. We should continue to seek to feel what others feel and be compassionate for understanding their situation or plight isn’t enough. Let’s continue to allow the Lord to guide us to be kind as well. Thank you for sharing 😊 ! Blessings!

    1. We certainly have to continue to focus on compassion, regardless, because our compassion speaks to what is inside of us as individuals. Yes, God will help us, He is ready and even acting even when we can’t see it – yet! Thank you for sharing!

Being like minded and compassionate is not simply expressing concern. We should also be compelled act just as Christ did. Action in words and deed. Reaching out to offer a listening ear or shoulder. We can demonstrate caring each other’s burdens by stepping up to ease the pain of the grieving and affected. Acts of kindness even small ones can lift a burdened spirit.

    1. Yes, agreed! “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead”- James 2:17 (ESV). When we trust in the Lord, it is an active act to believe in Him, and thus we begin to act in ways that He would approve. Let us be reminded to act, as you shared, acts of kindness by word, deeds, or prayer! Thank you for sharing!

It’s easy for people to get caught up in the politics, but the human side of it is what actually sticks for me. Definitely a sobering reminder to stay empathetic. Prayers for the grieving families and protection for the protesters.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

    1. Staying empathetic connects us to one another and allows us to be accountable to each other. We must continually see one another as human beings with feelings, pain, joy, family, ups and downs. When we forget we all are part of the human family it’s easy to detach. Let us remain connected, and accountable and stay in prayer for our fellow brothers and sisters during these challenging times. Thank you for sharing!
