The Message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. What does it mean today…

Today, January 19th, 2026, we commemorate the efforts of the Late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He advocated for nonviolent resistance to overcome oppression. Today, many may feel oppressed, without hope and in despair. Still, we must all continue to have faith and believe that better is coming! In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his famous, “I Have a Dream” speech, where he envisioned a future of hope and equality. Today, let us meditate on what freedom looks like for each of us and what freedom looks like for others. Let us practice kindness, and stand together in faith believing better is coming!

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” – Romans 12:12.

  1. This reflection beautifully captures both the legacy and the urgency of Dr. King’s message. His call to nonviolent resistance was never passive—it was rooted in courageous hope and disciplined love, even in the face of deep injustice. In moments when oppression feels heavy and despair feels close, Dr. King reminds us that faith is not denial of pain, but a commitment to believe and act as though transformation is possible.

    1. Well said, Dr. King knew in the heart of his message it was about recognizing the humanity in all people regardless of race, creed, color or origin. At the heart of it was a belief that all of us should have opportunities to live, to grow, to pursue happiness. His words do remind us of the “commitment” of faith and the transformation that comes when we stand! Thank you for sharing!

  2. So well said. It’s easy to feel the weight of things lately, but that focus on kindness and faith is everything. This is definitely a good message for today.

    1. I agree with you, very much so, we are in a time period where information moves at the speed of light…so much so that much of it isn’t fact checked or empathy added to words. You are correct we must renew our pledge to focus on acts of kindness and our faith for without faith it is impossible to please the Lord. Thank you for sharing.

    1. We certainly do, the Word shares it’s impossible to please God without faith, and faith is trusting in the Lord thus allowing Him to do just what He said in our lives. Thank you for sharing!
